How do I get to the 2018 Eisteddfod?

The 2018 Urdd National Eisteddfod will be held on the RWAS Showground in Llanelwedd, near Builth Wells, Powys. The post code for the site is LD2 3SY. 

Please follow the official signs to reach the car parks, and don’t depend completely on satellite navigation.

Dogs and other animals are not permitted on the Eisteddfod Maes with the exception of assistance dogs.

How to get there:

From the North East:

Head towards the A483 (Welshpool) and follow this road southbound towards Newtown, Llandrindod and Builth Wells.  As you approach the showground in Llanelwedd follow the official signs to the car parks.  When you have reached the car parks, follow the instructions of the traffic management officers. 

From the North West:

Head towards the A470 and follow this road southbound towards Builth Wells. As you approach the showground in Llanelwedd follow the official signs to the car parks.  When you have reached the car parks, follow the instructions of the traffic management officers. 

From Mid Wales (Aberystwyth area):

Follow the A44 eastbound towards Llangurig. Take the second exit at the roundabout, joining the A470 southbound towards Rhaeadr and Builth Wells.  As you approach the showground in Llanelwedd follow the official signs to the car parks.  When you have reached the car parks, follow the instructions of the traffic management officers. 

From the South West:

Head towards the A40 following this road eastbound in the direction of Llandovery.  When you have reached Llandovery, turn left onto the A483 (Builth Wells) after crossing the railway tracks.  Go through Builth Wells following the A483 to the left over the river Wye.  Take the first exit at the roundabout (A470) and follow the official signs to the car parks.  When you have reached the car parks, follow the instructions of the traffic management officers. 

From the South East:

Head towards the A470 and follow this road northbound in the direction of Builth Wells.  As you approach Builth Wells take a right turn onto the A483 over the river Wye. Take the first exit at the roundabout (A470) and follow the official signs to the car parks.  When you have reached the car parks, follow the instructions of the traffic management officers. 

What public transport is available?

The Builth Road railway station is located about two miles from the Eisteddfod Maes. This station is part of the Heart of Wales line that connects Swansea, Llanelli, Ammanford, Llandeilo and Llandovery with Builth Wells on one side, and with Llandrindod, Knighton and Shrewsbury on the other side.  Arriva operate the service, and the timetable and connection times can be seen by visiting the National Rail Enquiries website: www.nationalrail.co.uk

The T4 Traws Cymru bus service operates between Cardiff and Newtown, stopping in the Groe car park in Builth Wells, and at Llanelwedd Crescent which is a five minute walk from the Eisteddfod Maes.  The timetable can be found by visiting: www.trawscymru.info

Do you have to be a member of the Urdd to compete in the Eisteddfod?

How do I buy tickets?

Do I need a separate ticket to enter the Maes during the day and the concerts or competitions in the evening?

Yes, separate tickets are required for certain evening concerts and competitions. A day entry ticket is required for entry to the Maes from 7am. After 4pm, a reduced price will be charged for a day entry ticket.

On Monday, Tuesday and Friday entry is permitted to the Maes after 4pm with a valid ticket to the evening event in the Pavilion.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday entry to the Pavilion is permitted with a valid day entry ticket.  

Where can I buy a Syllabus?

The 2019 Syllabus will be available to download from our website after the 2018 Eisteddfod.

Where can I buy the Official Programme?

The Official Programme will be published in May 2017 and will be available in your local Welsh book shop or by calling the Urdd Office on 0345 2571613.

Are dogs allowed onto the Maes or the Caravan Site?

No, only Guide Dogs are allowed on the Maes and the Caravan Site.

Is there parking for people with disabilities?

Dedicated parking areas will be allocated for blue badge holders as usual.

Follow the relevant directions towards the car parks, and stewards will direct you to the blue badge parking areas.  You will need to display the badge in the vehicle.

What facilities are available on the Maes for people with disabilities?

All our structures are accessible and there will be trackways around the Maes. There will also be suitable toilet provision. 

I need to bring heavy equipment onto the Maes such as a harp or other instruments. Is there any help available on arrival?

Yes. When arriving at the car park, please notify a steward wearing an orange jacket, who will radio for assistance.

Where should I go if I have a caravan or tent?

The entrance to the caravan and camp site is located by the showground on the A470 (Rhaeadr - Llanelwedd road) Follow the relevant ‘caravan’ signs after reaching Llanelwedd. You will need to display the correct vehicle pass in order to be able to access the caravan and camp site.  

Please note that drivers are asked to follow the official yellow signs to reach the car parks, and to listen to any advice given in order to ensure that traffic keeps moving smoothly. Please also listen to traffic announcements on the radio.

Do you provide places to park bikes?

You can park your bike in a dedicated area near the Main Entrance.

Do you allow smoking on the Eisteddfod Maes?

Smoking is prohibited on the Eisteddfod Maes – both inside and outside. E-cigarettes are also prohibited. 

Are all of the prelims on the Eisteddfod Maes?

All of the prelims are on the Eisteddfod Maes with two of the venues in Bridgend College buildings (Pencoed campus).
