Tomos Acreman is from Cascade, near Pengam. He attended Ysgol Cwm Rhymni and is now a Sports Apprentice with the Urdd. Tom has just completed his first year as a Level 2 Activity Leadership apprentice with the Urdd, and now he has started a Level 3 Sports Development apprenticeship. We are very proud of Tom's development, and for winning the title of Ambassador for the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol as well as the NTfW (National Training Federation for Wales) which represents work-based learning providers across Wales.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship with the Urdd?

I wanted to continue using the Welsh language and learn about sport through the medium of Welsh.

What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship?

I love coaching different sports for children through the medium of Welsh.

What do you think about undertaking an apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh?

It is very important for me to do my apprenticeship and my job through the medium of Welsh because it encourages children from my area to use and love the Welsh language.

What are your interests outside of work?

Anything to do with sports! This includes rugby, football, darts, cycling and walking!

How has doing the apprenticeship affected your personal development?

The apprenticeship has made me a more confident person. I have learned many valuable skills and gained lots of knowledge to do with sports.

What are you hoping to do after completing the apprenticeship?

I love working for the Urdd, so I would love to stay with the organisation in the Sports Department to develop the provision of sports through the medium of Welsh in my area.

Briefly describe your duties.

As a trainer it is important that we provide fun activities for all participants in a safe and controlled way.
