Llio Jones is an Activity Leadership apprentice with the Urdd since September. She comes from a small village called Llannefydd, near Denbigh. She attended Llannefydd Primary School then Glan Clwyd High School. She’s a little about her story!

Why did you decide to undertake an apprenticeship with the Urdd?

I decided to do an apprenticeship as it is a great opportunity to develop and learn new skills and experience working with new people and also leading sports sessions. Of course, I love sports, so this apprenticeship is perfect for me.

What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship?

The thing I enjoy most about my apprenticeship, is that I meet a variety of people and learn so much by doing different sessions to develop my skills in a variety of different sports.

What do you think about undertaking an apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh?

I feel it is a great privilege to be able to do an apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh. I feel it is very important that we offer as many opportunities as possible to do sports through the medium of Welsh. And in doing so, it is encouraging more people to use the Welsh language.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love spending time outdoors going for walks and helping on the farm. I'm a member of Ruthin hockey club and Llannefydd young farmers club. And there's nothing I enjoy more than spending time socializing with family and friends.

How has doing the apprenticeship affected your personal development?

Doing this apprenticeship has affected my development significantly. Not only have I developed my literacy and numeracy skills by completing WEST exercises and coursework. I am also more confident working with others and meeting new people. I also feel more comfortable dealing with a variety of different situations.

What are you hoping to do after completing the apprenticeship?

After completing the apprenticeship, I hope to continue working in sports and coaching.

Briefly describe your duties.

Our duties change weekly, but the main duties of my job are to run sports clubs in my area, either in schools or after school clubs.
