We have worked with Ffalabalam for several years now. Ffalabalam is has two nurseries located in Gwynedd, with staff from these nurseries having completed Childcare qualifications from Level 2 through to Level 5, with many also having worked closely with our Essential Skills HWB team.
Co-owner and Director Menna Jones said:
"We are a nursery that strongly believes that staff develop their skills on the nursery floor and the Urdd works brilliantly with us as a company, with their assessors providing advise and training to our staff in a very professional way."
Ella Grace Roberts, who works at Ffalabalam and is from Bangor, attended Ysgol Tryfan before starting her apprenticeship. Ella is a Level 2 Childcare apprentice and was nominated for Apprentice of the Month by her assessor, Rebecca, who said:
"Ella is coming to the end of her course now and has developed so much during the qualification. When she started her apprenticeship, she had just finished school and was inexperienced in the workplace. Her confidence when working with the children and the way she cares for them is fantastic, and her ability to deliver coursework has also improved greatly. Through observing Ella, I can see how much she enjoys her job and being with the children."
We adapted the course to suit Ella, and because of this she says she enjoys learning, and wants to complete her work and reflect on this in her own time. Ella’s confidence in using Welsh for recording and completing written tasks has also increased during her learning.
Ella said about completing the course in Welsh:
"I’m glad that I’m able to speak and write in Welsh. It’s important to me and it’s also important to be able to speak Welsh with the children."
Childcare qualifications set a standard within nurseries in Wales, enabling staff to improve their practice and to help children develop in a safe environment.
