We have worked with GLL/Better Cardiff for a number of years, and they manage many excellent leisure centres across Cardiff. Several members of their team have benefitted from completing apprenticeships with the Urdd, with some successfully achieving their Level 2 Sport,Leisure and Active Wellbeing qualification, and more recently, the Level 3 in Leisure Management.
Chelsea Deacon recently completed her Level 3 Leisure Management qualification at Maindy Leisure Centre in Cardiff, and this is what her line manager, Anthony Hayes, had to say about the experience:
“This is a perfect example of how investing in your workforce can be rewarding, both for the team members and for the business. When we first recruited Chelsea onto the Urdd Apprenticeship programme, it was clear from day one that she was headed for success in her role as a Recreation Assistant and Fitness Instructor at Better Maindy Centre.
Chelsea has gone from strength to strength thanks to the support of the Urdd—not only in terms of qualifications, but also throughout the emotional journey that culminated in completing a Level 3 in Operational Management. This qualification means that Chelsea can now take the next step in her plan to both lead and manage a leisure centre team.”
