Eisteddfod yr Urdd winners honoured at the National Eisteddfod in Tregaron

Urdd Gobaith Cymru congratulates eighteen members of the organisation who were honoured yesterday (Monday, 1 August) by being accepted into the Gorsedd at the 2022 National Eisteddfod in Tregaron.

Yesterday, eighteen of the Urdd Eisteddfod winners were accepted into the Gorsedd and presented the Green Robe (Gwisg Werdd) after winning some of the main competitions at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Brecon and Radnorshire (2018), Cardiff (2019), Eisteddfod T (2020 and 2021) and the 2020-21 Eisteddfod (not held as a result of the pandemic).

The winners of the main competitions of the Urdd Eisteddfod, such as the Crown, the Chair, the Composer Medal, the Learners' Medal and the Drama Medal are eligible to receive the Green Robe in the Gorsedd.  Representation from the world of technology and arts and crafts was also part of the Urdd’s dignitaries yesterday, as Rhiannon Gwyn of Bethesda was honoured after winning the Design and Technology Art Trophy at last year's Eisteddfod T.

Siân Eirian, Director of the Urdd Eisteddfod, said, "On behalf of the Urdd, I would like to congratulate all the members who were honoured yesterday and accepted their place in the Gorsedd in Tregaron. The Green Robe symbolises a contribution to Welsh arts and culture; a very well-deserved privilege and honour to be presented to the main winners of the Urdd Eisteddfod.

"It was great to see our young people being honoured as part of the Eisteddfod, particularly for the winners who had missed out on the atmosphere and excitement of the Maes as the Urdd Eisteddfod adapted and turned digital in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the pandemic.  On behalf of the Urdd, I would like to congratulate all those who were honoured at the National Eisteddfod in Tregaron yesterday."
