More about The Urdd Theatre Company

Since the relaunch of Cwmni Theatr yr Urdd in September 2022, we have offered a variety of valuable experiences to young people all over Wales. In September 2023, the Company performed their first new production, Deffro'r Gwanwyn. The production included a cast of 27 young people between the ages of 16-25 and a mix of professional performers along with those who ventured onto the stage to perform for the first time. With a production and creative team, and a backstage crew, the opportunities to take part in the production were extremely varied!

It was also exciting to involve of our young members  when re-creating and developing Eisteddfod yr Urdd main ceremonies. As they shared their ideas and as we listened to their opinions, we had unique, exciting and contemporary ceremonies for Eisteddfod yr Urdd in Carmarthenshire and in Maldwyn again this year.

We have also been holding skills sessions in different areas of Wales, which gave young people the opportunity to experiment with different aspects of theatre in the company of experienced individuals in the field. We hope to hold similar sessions again soon!

Our most recent production was 'Ble mae trenau'n mynd gyda'r nos a chwestiynau mawr eraill bywyd' (Where do trains go at night and other big questions of life). This unique show started with 3 writing rooms. An opportunity for a group of young people to come together to chat, play, experiment and ask questions.

Following the writing rooms, a team of various artists came together to weave all the images, stories and questions together - and this is where we came up with the idea of the title, and as a result placing our 12 scenes on a train that is not necessarily anchored in reality! The production toured across Wales during the summer, 11 shows and 6 locations!

After two exciting and successful years since relaunching, Cwmni Theatr yr Urdd is looking forward to next year, and is excited to continue offering valuable and varied experiences to its members. If you would like to be part of the company or if you are interested in hearing more, fill in the interest form on this page!
