As a DofE Approved Activity Provider, we can offer training and expedition packages for the Gold DofE Award, as well as any training or support for school staff and volunteers.

North Wales - Eryri

Join us on an Open Gold expedition package over the Summer holidays this year. Expeditions will be based in the National Park in Eryri.

Price for our Open Gold package starts from £425pp, or if you’ve already completed your training expedition, you can book onto our Gold qualifying expedition in August for £250. Prices includes campsite fees, kit hire and transport during the expeditions. You will need to provide your own personal equipment and food for the expeditions.

South Wales - Bannau Brycheiniog

We are running open Gold Expeditions throughout the school holidays in 2026. We will be based in the Brecon Beacons, travelling across the national park over both expeditions, hoping to see some of the breathtaking views and wildlife Wales has to offer. The training day before the practice expedition will be a great opportunity to meet and get to know others who are also completing their expedition, along with staff from the Urdd.

Price for the whole package starts at £425pp, which includes equipment*, campsite fees and transport. You will need to provide your own food and personal kit.

*Equipment available to hire includes: Tent, rucksack, roll mat, cooking stove, map and compass

Expedition Requirements 2026

To successfully complete the Gold Expedition unit with the Urdd, there is a number of things you will have to do:

You must participate in the training day before the expeditions, no matter how much you already know - this is so we can ensure that you receive the right training before taking part in the expedition. We will also share some important information throughout the training day so you are fully prepared for the practice.

We will need to complete a route card session before each of the expeditions which we can arrange closer to the expeditions

Complete the expedition requirements set by the Duke of Edinburgh Award which includes:

- Walk as a group of 4-7 members

- As part of a group, you must write a meal plan and daily route cards for each expedition

- As a group, you must come up with an aim to complete over the expeditions

- You must be self-sufficient for the whole of the expedition and walking will be your mode of transport

- Camp overnight in a tent
