The Urdd Bryn Terfel Scholarship is returning for the first time since 2019 and will be held on the 5th of March at 6pm at the Arts Centre, Aberystwyth. The scholarship has helped a number of young performers to reach a professional stage and, in many cases, has led to an international career.
A panel of judges have selected the six most promising competitors within the older age category, under 25 following the Denbighshire Urdd Eisteddfod 2022, to compete for the Urdd Gobaith Cymru Bryn Terfel Scholarship 2022 this year.
The six who’ll be competing for the scholarship this year are Fflur Davies (Cylch Arfon), Gwenno Morgan (Aelwyd Llundain), Ioan Williams (Adran Bro Taf), Mali Elwy (Adran Bro Aled), Owain Rowlands (Aelod Unigol Blaenau Tywi) and Rhydian Tiddy (Cylch Blaenau Tywi).
On the night of the scholarship, Barri Gwilliam, Sioned Terry, Bethan Williams-Jones and Gwennan Gibbard will adjudicate the six.
The six competitors have received individual master classes and a mentor in recent weeks as part of the preparations for the scholarship –
- A musical masterclass by Steffan Harri for Fflur Davies
- A piano masterclass by Iwan Llywelyn Jones for Gwenno Morgan
- A dance masterclass by Osian Meilir for Ioan Williams
- A theatr masterclass by Ffion Dafis for Mali Elwy
- A vocal masterclass by Rhian Lois for Owain Rowlands
- A trombone masterclass by Dafydd Thomas for Rhydian Tiddy
