Celebrating North American Festival of Wales 2025: Ottawa, Canada

Here's a special opportunity for four dancers who are members of the Urdd to perform at the North American Festival of Wales in August 2025!

The 4 who are selected will perform individually and as a quartet. You don't have to be from the same Aelwyd / College / School / group, but you will need to perform together during the trip.

The successful individuals will be required to dance between 2 and 3 pieces of individual dance. We will be looking for individuals who can demonstrate traditional Welsh dancing skills, but there will also be an opportunity to make more contemporary / modern versions.

A choreographer will work with the 4 between Spring and August 2025 in preparation for the trip.

Tour date: end of August 2025, exact dates to be confirmed.

You will travel in the name of the Urdd with travel, accommodation and food costs paid by the festival. A member of Urdd staff will be on the tour with you.

Enjoy dancing, or know someone who does? Take advantage of this unique opportunity to perform and represent the Urdd over in Canada!

The successful applicants will need to be between 18 -25 years of age, with a valid passport (6 months left in August). If you have less than 6 months left, apply for a new one online as soon as possible.

The Urdd’s Partnership with the North American Festival

The Urdd established a partnership with the North American Festival following a generous donation from the late Dr. John M. Thomas. Dr. Thomas was a Welshman who had settled in Florida, but he maintained close ties to his Welsh roots through memories of Eisteddfods from his childhood. In his will, he wished to give young people in Wales the opportunity to travel and perform, as he fondly remembered doing when he was young. The Urdd would like to thank Dr. Thomas and his family for making this unforgettable opportunity possible for the young people of Wales.

The festival week celebrates Welsh culture by hosting an Eisteddfod, concerts, and a variety of different activities.
